Stylish Mid-Century Modern "Basket Weave" dresser designed by architect and interior designer Paul Laszlo for Brown Saltman in the United States in 1955. This spectacular Model-1613 dresser features an oak wood body with Laszlo's signature chest pattern seen on his famous "Basket Weave" furniture line he designed for Brown Saltman. Manufactured in the county of Southgate in the Los Angeles area, this classic Californian Modern design is comprised of six basket weave drawers and two angled legs adding textures and modern shapes. Its excellent craftsmanship is represented on the dovetailed joinery seen on each drawer and the sculpted base creating an eclectic mix of modern techniques. Our expert craftsmen have professionally refinished this dresser keeping all original design principles and the manufacturer's stamp inside one of the drawers, preserving its historical value.

The Restoration Record

Everything we touched, and everything we left alone

Sixty-four hours of bench time by two craftsmen in our Hyperion Avenue workshop. Period-correct methods and materials throughout.

Frame fully disassembled, joints cleaned of old glue and re-set with hide glue. One rear stretcher replaced with salvaged period teak, grain-matched.
Stripped by hand, sanded through 120/180/240/320 grit, then three coats of Danish oil cut back between coats. No lacquer, no filler, no stain.
New jute webbing over the original beech rails; horsehair and natural latex pad; Kvadrat wool bouclé in undyed oat.
Maker's stamp, original brass fittings and the patina on the arm caps, the marks that prove the piece lived.
