This striking Mid-Century Modern table lamp by Phil-Mar is a perfect blend of bold design and expert craftsmanship. The ceramic body features a vibrant orange glaze with textured lava-like bands, adding depth and dimension to its sculptural form. Resting on a rich walnut wood base, the lamp is topped with a custom linen shade, enhancing its warm and inviting glow. Fun Historical Fact:

Phil-Mar Co. was a notable American manufacturer of decorative ceramics in the mid-20th century, known for their innovative lamp designs. During the 1960s, bold colors and textured glazes became popular in lighting, reflecting the influence of both Atomic Age futurism and organic modernism. This lamp embodies that era’s adventurous approach to home décor, where everyday objects became artistic expressions.

The Restoration Record

Everything we touched, and everything we left alone

Sixty-four hours of bench time by two craftsmen in our Hyperion Avenue workshop. Period-correct methods and materials throughout.

Frame fully disassembled, joints cleaned of old glue and re-set with hide glue. One rear stretcher replaced with salvaged period teak, grain-matched.
Stripped by hand, sanded through 120/180/240/320 grit, then three coats of Danish oil cut back between coats. No lacquer, no filler, no stain.
New jute webbing over the original beech rails; horsehair and natural latex pad; Kvadrat wool bouclé in undyed oat.
Maker's stamp, original brass fittings and the patina on the arm caps — the marks that prove the piece lived.
