This striking Mid-Century Modern ceramic ashtray was designed by Aldo Londi for Bitossi in the 1950s. Featuring a richly textured surface with a deep brown and white glazed finish, this piece exemplifies Londi’s signature approach to ceramics, blending organic textures with modernist simplicity. The rounded form and subtle geometric motifs add depth and visual interest, making it a perfect addition to any collector’s display or functional decor. Crafted with precision, the speckled glaze effect highlights the artistry of Italian ceramic craftsmanship from the period. In excellent vintage condition, this piece retains its original charm and character.

Fun Historical Fact:

Aldo Londi was the artistic director of Bitossi Ceramics for over 50 years and was instrumental in defining the company’s modern aesthetic. The Restoration Record

Everything we touched, and everything we left alone

Sixty-four hours of bench time by two craftsmen in our Hyperion Avenue workshop. Period-correct methods and materials throughout.

Frame fully disassembled, joints cleaned of old glue and re-set with hide glue. One rear stretcher replaced with salvaged period teak, grain-matched.
Stripped by hand, sanded through 120/180/240/320 grit, then three coats of Danish oil cut back between coats. No lacquer, no filler, no stain.
New jute webbing over the original beech rails; horsehair and natural latex pad; Kvadrat wool bouclé in undyed oat.
Maker's stamp, original brass fittings and the patina on the arm caps, the marks that prove the piece lived.
